Apocalypse for Cartoons- Newspapers to suspend Cartoons

Saw this via Derfcity, which is one of my favorite cartoons to read and which I see in Funny Times.

The newspaper industry overall, both the daily and weekly "alternative" press, is in a state
of total panic right now. 2008 was the worst year I've ever had, with desperate editors
cutting cartoons right and left. Dailies, for all the suicidal moves they have made, at least
aren't axing cartoons. They run wretched ones, to be sure, but they recognize how vital
comics are. I believe Weeklies should be ADDING features and content, especially cartoons,
which are both popular and inexpensive. Instead the strategy seems to be "let's give our
readers LESS to read!" Yeah. Wonder how that will work out?

The only hope here is to write these papers and express your disappointment with this
decision. You need to let them know that you like and want cartoons, not just mine, in your
paper. If you don't do this, you can bid goodbye to your favorite comics.

The VVM papers I was running in are: Dallas Observer, New Times Ft. Lauderdale, Houston
Press, Pitch Weekly, Miami New Times and St. Louis Riverfront Times. Below are links to each
paper's letter-to-the-editor form. If you like my cartoon, if you like cartoons period, I urge you
to write and let them know it. This is it, folks. If you don't speak up now, you'll have to get your
laughs from crappy Youtube videos created by pimply high-school geeks.
