Bye, Bye Bush
Taxpayers foot the bill for Bush's new Dallas Office

Whatever happened to President Truman's "The buck stops here!" policy?

American taxpayers will foot the tab for Pres. George W. Bush's new 8,000 sq. ft. business office in Dallas, TX. at a cost of $300,000 per year!!!

Huh?

Haven''t Americans already paid far too much for Bush's upkeep as President?

Some of the media tries to play this down by pointing out that American taxpayers did the same for former Pres. Bill Clinton, whose business office was in New York City and it cost a bit more than the one they will pay for Bush.

Oh, well I feel a lot better now! &^%$*^%!

What's up with us taxpayers having to pay lucrative CEO buyouts to former presidents?  They already get a huge retirement package.  Do we really have to buy their office space too?  For life?

Isn't it also enough that U.S. taxpayers foot the bill for the Secret Service to protect all living former U.S. presidents, for life?

And to top it off, Bush & Company made MILLIONS off taxpayers during the past 8 years, along with passing lucrative business packages and perks to their wealthy special interests!

Am I the only one who is angry about this?

Look, I know that being President of the U.S. probably is one of the toughest jobs there is.

George Walker Bush is leaving the presidency with the worst popularity rating of any president since Richard M. Nixon!  And Nixon was impeached!

But in fairness to Bush, not that he should get "fairness", U.S. taxpayers should NOT foot the bill for former Pres. Bill Clinton either.  He lied to the American people also, just as Bush has done so many times.

So, I guess these guys will be the role models of our children.  They will learn that lying, being unethical and conniving and acquiring large bank account balances at any cost are the most important priorities you can do here in the Promised Land..

What a shame we can't seem to teach our children a better, more honorable foundation for living out their lives.

Why? Why in the world? I can well understand paying for secret service for the rest of the man's life. After all, Miserable Failure probably has made a huge number of enemies. But helping him with office space? I seem to remember the same thing, asyou mentioned, with Bill Clinton. But that kind of argument is weak- It's what your kids say "Well, So and So Gets To Stay Out Till 2 In the Morning, Why Can't I". If it happened with Clinton, it was the WRONG thing to do.

Here's a story from Politico about why Clinton's was funded. Apparently the law started when politicians found out about a near destitute condition of Harry Truman. There's a group that's working to cap the benefits. I mean, it's one thing to get office space as an ex-presidential perk and quite another to pick the most pricey office space in town. Here's the justification

But Jay Carson, who worked for Clinton after his presidency and now serves as a spokesman for Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign, said the former president's retirement allowances are justified.

“Since leaving office, President Clinton has represented the American people at home and abroad, at state funerals, through his work with former President Bush on the tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, and through his vigorous charitable foundation work to fight AIDS, climate change and childhood obesity,” Carson said in a statement.

Yeah. SO??? There are lots of people who run around *representing the American people* and they don't expect the American taxpayer to fund it.

Actually, Bush is the first former president who comes under the new law regarding Secret Service protection.

As of 1997, the US Congress passed a bill that limits the 'life time' USSS protection of former presidents to 10 years after leaving office. GW Bush will be the first President to be affected by this change. From Bill Clinton back there will be no change.

Really! heh. One wonders if there was a special reason they did that for Bush.

Since Congress passed it in 1997, Bush wasn't yet a presidential gleam in anyone's eye.
