U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards (D-Waco) supported House passage of House Resolution 34 recognizing Israel’s right to defend itself against attacks from Gaza.
In a statement from his Washington office, Edwards says:
“Despite Israel’s complete withdrawal of all of its soldiers and settlements from Gaza in 2005, an effort aimed at reducing violence and improving relations with the Palestinians, Hamas has continued to launch thousands of rocket attacks at innocent Israeli citizens.
“What would the United States do if rockets were launched across our borders at innocent Americans?
“No country should be expected to endure constant rocket and mortar fire on its own soil. Israel has every right to defend itself against these attacks by initiating military actions in Gaza.”
The news release says that the resolution also reaffirms the United States’ strong support for Israel, and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
