Last week I had to get some stuff from the local grocery store and there was a big ole rack of red and green candy near the door. Today I drove to Stephenvillle and while flipping the dial came across some DFW station that ALREADY IS DEDICATED to 24 hours of Xmas music. And one of the stations, I think the one that ousted Porky and Red (or whatever that chunky guy's name was) had guys doing some kind of Christmas contest. WHY???????
I suppose I seem terribly old fashioned when I say that I think friggin Thanksgiving ought to be past and cold with turkey bones in the trash before the commercial buying season for Christmas is full on. Used to be that people waited until the weekend after Thanksgiving, for example, to put up their holiday lights.
Could it be that the merchants are feeling desperate? Turns me away from wanting to buy anything when there's no respect for ONE HOLIDAY AT A TIME. It is still ONLY November 17 and I haven't even bought my turkey etc for TG.
And speaking of, I wish there was a holiday parade and events around here that were secular at this time of year. It isn't like December 25th isn't a pagan holiday date.
