Anyone else feeling like me? What happened to the 'markets will correct themselves' conservative philosophy? How about letting them correct themselves? Congess wants us to pay for the 700 Billion dollar bailout...maybe it's because THEY are wall street. If you consider members of congress make well over $172,000 a year each, they are the ones who have the most to lose in Wall Street and why they are scrambling to protect their own. Congrss doesn't care about the government spying on you with no oversight, they don't care about Bush/Cheney breaking the law, they don't care about taking away the subsidies for oil companies, they don't care about using our military for oil corporations pipelines, they don't care about torturing prisoners, they don't care about sending billions overseas to places like Pakistan, they don't care about spending $12 Billion a month in Iraq, they don't care if CEO's make over $1 million a year in salary while the average worker is under $50k, they don't care if the ExxonMobil CEO's get a $400 million dollar retirement package, they don't care if people are getting bad mortgages or bad deals until it affects their Wall Street checkbooks, and they certainly don't care about you or me.
Congress does care about giving themselves a pay raise, they do care about getting re-elected, they do care about being part of the Military Industrial Complex because most of the spending in this country is on military, they do care about what their lobbyists think because they are the ones paying them under the table (trips, vacations, insurance policies, family benefits, etc.), they do care about taking care of their own, they do care about staying in the office they currently have, they do care about what people with influence think but not about what you or I think.
Seems that congress cares about all the wrong things, let's send them a message and replace all the ones who only care about themselves and not the people they supposedly represent.

I can't believe there are no comments on this. I say a pox on both their houses. The writer is giving voice to most average 'thinking' Americans. Accent on thinking. Most of America falls on each party side and figures "they know more about this economy than I do". WRONG! The people balancing their home budget could do a better job. My husband and I built a home before the housing bust. We found a plan within our limits. One contractor told me if we doubled the size it would be cheaper.I told him"does that usually work for most people". To say he was upset was an understatement. Let this house of straw be blown down and rebuilt on a better foundation with bricks.

omigosh, I'm so with you, donna. I agree with joe about them all, too. You know how you think that the people in charge are supposed to be so much smarter, in control, and leaders? This whole financial mess clearly shows up what a joke THAT is. And we also try to live within a budget. Instead of the Bushies telling everyone to go out and spend, where is the advice to live within your means and don't get a lot of credit, etc?
