What kind of pinheads are on the Texas State Board of Education? Imagine this. The Ector County ISD (Texas) was sued by some parents who didn't want their kids taught the Bible by the partisan National Bible Curriculum in Public Schools". Back in March, the Ector ISD came to an agreement, pre court, where they said the Bible course would NOT be NBCPS but, rather developed by a committee of seven local educators selected by the superintendent. Wonder how well THAT is working? Anyway, point is that the main reason the lawsuit was avoided is that the ISD DROPPED THE COURSE.
So what did four of the Texas State Board of Educators do? Sent out an email to school districts PROMOTING THE NATIONAL BIBLE CURRICULUM. And these people are in CHARGE of Texas education? How dumb can you be?
An e-mail to school districts encouraged local control in deciding which Bible courses to adopt, but it went on to recommend a curriculum that some officials are predicting will lead to more lawsuits.
The e-mail was sent by board members Terri Leo of Spring, Barbara Cargill of The Woodlands, Cynthia Dunbar of Richmond and Gail Lowe of Lampasas.
The e-mail threw its support behind the National Council On Bible Curriculum In Public Schools. Supporters say it has been successful in several school districts and meets state curriculum guidelines.
But Mark Chancey in the Southern Methodist University religion department says the curriculum favors Protestant perspectives of the Bible at the expense of others. He calls the e-mail "jawdropping."
Ya know, Texas schools have it tough enough getting money, why in the world would the SBOE ASK for lawsuits? Incidentally, remember that Edra Bogle is running for SBOE is our district. Vote her in because GUESS WHO IS ONE OF THE PEOPLE SENDING OUT THAT DUMB EMAIL? Gail Lowe, who is the current SBOE person. She needs to GO. Now.
