Saw this via Jobsanger. to Mark of the Beast. and ChristianityToday. Some racist guys had made very offensive boxes with Obama's picture on it as well as other slogans and were selling them at a values voters conference (I believe their values are not mine). But here's the deal-it took the FRC people a day and a half to tell those vendors to cut it ou. Why? The Christianity Today article says it was ATHIESTS that noticed the box and were offended.
Think of that. It wasn't the Christians who were attending the conference who complained. Oh, no, those Chrisitians were BUYING the boxes and the vendors had sold more than 400 boxes. What got the FRC's attention? The fact that the atheists told reporters.
Things went well for a day and a half. DeMoss and Whitlock said traffic to their booth was heavy, they got no complaints, and they sold more than 400 boxes of the waffle mix.
But then a member of American Atheists brought the exhibit to the attention of an Associated Press reporter covering the event. When the AP reporter started asking questions, the FRC told the exhibitors to dismantle the exhibit.
So, in other words, there were at least 400 CHRISTIANS that bought that racist box of waffle mix (and probably a lot more who thought it was great but didn't want to spend the 10 bucks). And it took some ATHEISTS who apparently have a lot better values than the CHRISTIANS attending that FRC shindig to get it to stop.
Even then the guys, who weren't wearing their KKK hoods at the time, just couldn't understand why anyone would take offense to this.
GET A CLUE. Once the FRC realized this would be in the news, even THEY issued a statement condemning it.
We strongly condemn the tone and content of materials that were exhibited by one of the vendors at this weekend's Values Voter Summit. The materials represent an attempt at parody that crosses the line into coarseness and bias."
"The exhibitor contacted our reviewer just days before the Summit by email and described material that sounded like it was devoted to political flip-flops on policy issues. When the content of the materials was brought to the attention of FRC Action senior officials today, they were removed and the exhibit was dismantled by the vendor at our insistence. It is our responsibility to fully vet materials that are offered at any event we cosponsor, but we are deeply dismayed that this vendor violated the spirit, message and tone of our event in such an offensive manner."
"The Values Voter Summit represents a coming together of many long-established organizations that work across denominational and ethnic lines to celebrate and promote the family and a culture of life. We reject any communications that divide and distract us and frustrate these principles. Bishop Harry Jackson's High Impact Leadership Coalition, Gary Bauer's American Values, and Alliance Defense Fund join us in rejecting this material."
But, again, it took some atheists and the media to get them to do it.
