Went to the City of Glen Rose Town Council meeting last night and recorded the whole thing. I hadn't heard about the problems with hooks in the Paluxy River by Big Rocks but apparently it's a huge issue. Here's audio from the Glen Rose city meeting in June 2008 which is where the council members passed a No Fishing ordinance. The questions at this meeting had to do with who or which entity has jurisdiction over fishing-in other words, fishing from the bank versus fishing from within the river and whether certain types of fishing can be regulated rather than just saying "No Fishing" at all. Apparently after some fishermen (and fisherwomen) heard about the ordinance, they were up in arms and last night, some of them presented their case for amending the ordinance.

Here's Meghan Cook.

Alan Crise a fly fisherman

I did not catch this genlteman's name. Maybe someone can post it in the comments and I'll update. What is pretty awful is to look at the hooks that one can find in the Paluxy. He described having to take a barbed hook out of his finger with PLIERS!

Here's audio of that bit. (It's an MP3, best to right click, and download to your own computer to listen-about 7 mg) It was about 30 minutes long so too long to put up on Youtube as a video but I did extract some photos. The upshot is that the ordinance was changed Pole Fishing with Single Barbless Hooks.
