I actually laughed when I read this comment from Charlie Black, because it's just stunning that McCain and his buds think that this would appeal to women. Well, maybe repressed Republican women.
Mr. McCain’s advisers said Friday that Mr. McCain was well aware that Ms. Palin would be criticized for her lack of foreign policy experience, but that he viewed her as exceptionally talented and intelligent and that he felt she would be able to be educated quickly.
“She’s going to learn national security at the foot of the master for the next four years, and most doctors think that he’ll be around at least that long,” said Charlie Black, one of Mr. McCain’s top advisers, making light of concerns about Mr. McCain’s health, which Mr. McCain’s doctors reported as excellent in May.
Bwahaahahahahah. Boy, does THAT sound arrogant and diminishing to women. AS IF McCain is the master with some female neophyte AT HIS FEET. Oh, Please. And maybe he'd be around for the next four years. Gee, that's comforting.
McCain is anti-female and choosing this inexperienced women with ethics problems (and I just read that she supports RACIST Pat Buchanan!) seems to me like a Hail Mary pass. No woman should be fooled by this and no woman should be flattered by the attitude fo the McCain campaign about women sitting at McCain's FEET.
P.S. I've been mulling over just why that seems offensive... TO ME. Here, on the one hand, McCain is saying that he is picking someone who could possibly be VP if he passes on. (I remember clearly watching Reagan get shot by Hinkley). One would assume that he would pick someone, male OR female, that would be qualified and experienced. Nope.
And for every woman who wants to believe that she gets ahead in business, NOT because of her looks or because of a quota, or because she was sucking up the Good Ole Boys Club, the action of, not just choosing this particular woman, but acknowledging that she is NOT the best candidate for the job because she will require sitting AT THE FEET (should she maybe get out her Geisha outfit and massage those wrinkley toes while she's learning from him?) in order to become qualified, is a smack in the face to each and every woman that struggled, studied, worked hard and thinks she is put into jobs on her own merits. And not because she's a female stooge being USED by the Good Ole Boys who will *educate* her. (now how was THAT for a run-on sentence?)
P.P.S. Today I have a new theory of why Black said it-Forget Woman. It's for Evangelicals.
