Kathleen Hensley Portalski and her daddy Jim Hensen; half sister to Cindy Hensley McCain
From NPR
The Portalski family is accustomed to hearing Cindy McCain described as Hensley's only child.
She's been described that way by news organizations from The New Yorker and The New York Times to Newsweek and ABC.
McCain herself routinely uses the phrase "only child," as she did on CNN last month. "I grew up with my dad," she said then. "I'm an only child. My father was a cowboy, and he really loved me very much, but I think he wanted a son occasionally."
McCain's father was also a businessman — and twice a father.
But here's the good part. Daddy was a cheating ass, too.
Jim Hensley was a bombardier on a B-17, flying over Europe during World War II.
He was injured and sent to a facility in West Virginia to recuperate. During that time, while still married to Mary Jeanne, Hensley met another woman — Marguerite Smith. Jim divorced Mary Jeanne and married Marguerite in 1945.
It occurs to me that the REASON Cindy McCain doesn't want to draw too much attention to her half-sister is that she doesn't want people to realize that her daddy was a cheating creepo who cheated on his wife and dumped her to marry Marguerite Smith. Gee, Family Values Sure Run Deep in the McCain-Hensley bunch, eh? She may not want people to think about the fact that the man SHE was cheating with, that was cheating on his crippled wife whom he dumped to marry Cindy has a lot in common with her daddy.
More from Wonkette.
And now Cindy is only making things worse by telling people she was “an only child,” which is technically 1, if you don’t count the kids her parents had with other people before they were married.
Just to be clear-Her daddy was MARRIED and cheating with Cindy's soon-to-be-mom.
Oh and also Cindy and Kathleen are virtually neighbors, in that Kathleen and her impoverished retired husband live in a “modest home” in Phoenix, while Cindy and her massively wealthy Ferragamo-loving husband live in a dozen-ish baronial estates including one in Phoenix.
