I was a little depressed last night after reading about John Edwards screwing around

Not the least reason because he did it while his wife was sick (and still is) with cancer. It's the same reason I have the ulitmate disrespect for people like John McCain, who cheated on his crippled wife with then-bimbo-now-wife Cindy. It isn't only that both (actually all 4 parties involved)  were selfish, it's that they both did it when their spouses were ILL.  At a time when the spouses needed to have the most support to get through physically debiliating times, the two Johns were out screwing around. John McCain has never said that he was wrong to be a cheating scum (it isn't like that was the first time he cheated or ran around-he had a reputation for it). John Edwards also lied when he was asked about it by focusing on one part of the story, liar's trick.

But that's not exactly why I was blue about it. I don't expect politicians to be perfect. I tend to believe that Republicans are the party of closeted gays, but both Democrats and Republicans cheat. But, dang it, I voted for John Edwards, even on the Texas primary in 2004 when I KNEW that it wasn't going to count but John Kerry had already gotten the nom. While I wanted Dennis Kucinich (and still do, I'll live with the spaceship stuff), I thought of John Edwards as being my distant second choice, although I thought he was kind of angry this time around. I want my political choices to be heroes. I think Kucinich is. I thought Edwards was. He's not. Obama, who wasn't even on my radar in the first place because I fundamentally disagreed with his stances on some issues, but chose over HRC, lost out on the hero category when he voted for the FISA stuff. He's not a cheater, at least so far as I know, but, while he might have more morality than Edwards, he also doesn't rank as a political hero. And I want a political hero, have to train my eyes on people who don't have the leadership ear of the parties but are principled and worth admiring... like Kucinich.

The Republican party had made a claim that they were the party of family values and morality and that claim has been long gone.  But, then, I didn't admire any of them anyway.

What do you think? Who are your political heroes?
