Not sure what that was, but also a sign that said that park closed. From listening the last couple of months to the City of Glen Rose council meeting (audio here and here ) it seems that there has been a huge parking issue on Barnard Street, especially over holidays like Memorial Day. I wonder if the barrier is to prevent more people from parking there or if there is going to be something changed in the access? Overall, maybe someone reading can tell me how this would all work, especially with the potential river walk plans, of which no one at this point knows how much it would cost. If the idea is that people would come to Big Rocks and then go across the dam and walk on a paved (of some type) sidewalk next to the Paluxy to a picnic area, where are they going to park in the first place? I would guess most people don't know about Heritage Park parking and if they do, and it was crowded, doesn't seem like that would hold a really large number of people. Where DO people park to get to the park, if they don't do it in the Big Rocks parking area or along the side ot the street?
Side question. I listened to Helen Kerwin talk about her potential objections to giving the City of Glen Rose easement access to her property and also that the council people said they would work around this if she didn't. How would that be? I suppose there must be X amount of feet next to the Paluxy that is state or city land, so does that assume that a path would be there rather than anything on Kerwin's land?
I know that there's an engineering study planned and surely there would have to be some really deep anchors to put the path in place (remember last June?) Additionally, wonder if anyone is thinking about trying to duplicate the same type of strolling atmosphere, ultimately, that the San Antonio River Walk has, but what would have to be done with parking for this to happen, IF THAT IS IN SOMEONE'S MIND? (Here's some pics I took last year of the proposed river walk area.) I noticed that someone wrote a letter to the editor in the Glen Rose Reporter newspaper descrying the lack of more business involvement in the project.......
I invite your comments. Do you like the idea of the river walk? Would you prefer the 4b tax money be used on something else? (A reader mentioned sidewalks the other day, which I also think would be a great use of the money. And reminder that if you live in the city, you can petition to have the River Walk and water park resolutions brought to a vote! Otherwise, if you're apathetic, it will just get passed and if you don't like finding out later how much it costs, or how it's done, you're out of luck).
Update. That concrete construction was a nice outside toilet!
