Shuffling Chairs At the Glen Rose Reporter-That Was Fast

As readers here know, I read the Glen Rose Reporter newspaper and have for the last 10 years since I moved here. Late last year, the newspaper was sold to, at a local level, the same company that edits the Stephenville paper, as well as a few others in Texas (the corporation that actually owns the paper is Macquarie, out of Australia). Anyway, I have really enjoyed the changes to the paper, lots of pictures, etc. I noticed in the last two issues that not only was there a new reporter announced, but the byline for Kurt Mognyne was gone. Completely. And none of the pictures were bylined from Linda Drake. I was told a couple of weeks ago that Drake went to work for the new paper in town,but where did Kurt go?

Wonder why there was such an abrupt change?

For those that are wondering, I left The GR Reporter for another opportunity waaaaayyy down here in South Texas. I would have loved to stay at the Reporter but I accepted an offer I couldn't refuse allowing me to not only earn considerably more, but to get back into a management position with another newspaper. I'm now working as Managing Editor of The San Patricio County News and Odem-Edroy Times, based in Sinton (about 20 miles WNW of Corpus Christi). I miss the people in Glen Rose and certainly would have stayed, but it just didn't work out. Thanks for treating me with kindness and respect during my time in Somervell County. I'll be back to visit soon!

I WONDERED what happened to you! What a great opportunity for you. Weren't you in a management position before in a different local paper? Anway, really great to hear you are doing well and making, of course, MORE MONEY!

Yep. I had been editor of several newspapers before joining the GR Reporter, including the Aransas Pass Progress, Ingleside Index, SPC News and O-E Times (my current location) and the Elgin Courier. I had expressed my desire to become Editor of the Reporter and relocate to Glen Rose full-time, but management did not want to make that move. Oh well, I view it as their loss. Things are great down here... I've been to the beach EVERY weekend since moving back and have squeezed in some time for fishing the bays and surf on Mustang Island out at Port A. I've definitely turned into a "beach bum" but luckily I don't work weekends and have the time to have fun under the sun while not chasing down stories here in San Patricio County. BTW, love the "Salon"!
