Ugh. I actually saw the poor man after it happened. I had gone to lunch with a friend, and when I got back home, hub said he wanted to get some lunch from Burger King. (I guess he was feeling a little deprived, since I had had a fabulous grilled ham and cheese at Big Cup). So we hopped in the car and drove downtown and ran past a huge traffic accident. The police were motioning people out of the way, there was an ambulance at the scene but it wasn't loading anyone up. As we looked, we saw two feet sticking out from under a blanket and had to assume that whoever it was had been hit by a car, probably while he was crossing the road. And that the ambulance wasn't in any hurry because the person had been killed. I think that's the first time in my life I've ever seen anything like this.

So I just got the Glen Rose Reporter newspaper and there's an article as well as an obituary about the man who was hit. His name was Ernest White and he was apparently crossing over from what may have been his franchise, the Burger King. I noticed that one of the state troopers said people should look out for people crossing the highway, because they have the right of way even if there's no crosswalk. We're talking about a highway, and, aside from the crosswalk signal that you get at Hwy 59 and 67, the next light isn't until you get to 144, yes? And, if memory serves without going and looking, isn't the medical center right across the street from the Burger King? Maybe the speed limit ought to be lowered to 35 right there by the medical center. Anyway, rest in peace, Mr. White.
