Oh, I remember when Clayton Williams was running against Ann Richards for Governor in 1990. I can't remember the context of why he said this but he compared rape to the weather, saying that "as long as its inevitable, you may as well lay back and enjoy it". Needless to say that put an end to HIS campaign. There was such a furor, justly deserved, for that.

Gramps didn't know, or at least he said he didn't know, that Williams had said that. Williams had already raised $300,000 for him, but McCain doesn't intend to give that back. He DID decide to cancel the fundraiser once it came to light that's what he was going to do on Monday.

Tell you what. Gramps couldn't bring himself to show up to the Texas Republican Party Convention going on this weekend but he can show up to fundraisers. Except those with whom NOW he, once the light of the public shines on ti, finds offensive. That 300 thousand smacks he's already gotten isn't too offensive to keep[, though.

Update: Seems Gramps really is desperate to get Clayton Williams cash, he just didn't want to show up at his house, because NOW his campaign says the meeting has been *postponed*. Because you just can't turn down money from Insensitive Republicans Who Joke About Rape.
