Friday was the second day that investigators scanned thick, grassy areas and dips off roadways, thinking the white Dodge extended cab pickup she was driving may have veered off the road and out of sight. But there was no sign of her, Dendy said.
Garland’s 23-year-old son, Michael, said Friday that his family was busy putting signs around their Hamilton County neighborhood, and waiting on word from investigators.
“We have no information,” he said. “I just want to know what happened.”
The truck Garland was last seen driving is owned by Evan Moore, the paper’s owner, who said he lent her his spare truck after she hit a deer with her vehicle.
Moore said the woman he calls his “right arm” around the paper had deposited a check into the newspaper’s account at 4:12 p.m. Wednesday.
“If the woman was going to steal my car, why didn’t she steal my money?” he said. “There’s $14,000 in that account, and she didn’t touch it.”
