Currently, No Child Left Behind law states that, unless parents or students specifically write a letter (or sign a form supplied by the school district), student information such as name, address and phone number are automatically given to military recruiters. Rather than requiring parents and students to opt out, HR 551 would have them be able to opt in. That is, information only given if the parents and students signed a form to allow the information to be given. This bill is known also as the Student Privacy Protection Act of 2005.
