The TEA’s onsite investigation began in February 2007, when TEA auditors went to the district administration building to collect financial records and documents.

The investigation arose from a complaint by Access Cleburne watchdog group member Harold Gentry. Gentry sent a letter to the agency the previous year questioning the district’s use of federal Title I funds, travel and meal expenses for school board members and furniture purchases at CISD, among other financial uses.

So what happened? Robert Damron asked on Monday to be reassigned from his job as superindent of Cleburne ISD.

Robert Damron’s request Monday to be reassigned from his job as superintendent of Cleburne ISD changes the school board’s plan for replacing Damron, who was to retire in July.

The reassignment comes in the wake of a Texas Education Agency report the district recently received about its use of federal money. The report has been released to the administration and school board but not the public.

Update: July 30- all federal grant money funds must be approved by the TEA first now.
