with only one small point. I realize that it completely exhausts me when I read about items such as the Yoo Torture memo that basically told Bush that torturing people and ignoring treaties is the purvue of the president.  I mean, what is there to say? It isn't like knowing that the Bush administration has engaged in torture is anything startlingly new. But reading about it again makes me feel tired because Congress did nothing about it. I remember when Ashcroft refused to fork over that torture memo YEARS ago and Congress postured about it... but it took a Freedom of Information request from the ACLU to actually get it. Why in the world should that be?

I've long been thinking that whoever becomes president of the United States shouldn't get a free ride from Congress... because Congress is supposed to uphold the constitution and laws EVEN WHEN THE PRESIDENT DOES NOT. There's no way that Bush should be in office right now because his style of constitutional dictatorship that makes a mockery of decency should not only have been verbally denounced but action by Congress should have prevented him and his cronies from running this country into the ground.
