A Few Bits from the Glen Rose Reporter Newspaper Week of March 13, 2008

As I remind, not my paper (this is a blog), but the one I like to read and I subscribe to.  I have been very sick for the past week with a cold that was ferocious this time, so I missed going to the county and city meetings. The Glen Rose Reporter has the info.

  • Looks like there are 3 people going for 3 positions on the City Council, so the city might not have to hold an election. Nice pics of Ricky Villa, Rocky Terry and newcomer Dianne Gruber.
  • Pic of Chamber of Commerce people at the opening of Dinosaur World and I could swear I see Sid Miller in the pic, too. (It IS election season after all.
  • James Gosdin's acreage was annexed to the city. He apparently wants to put in a big ole apartment complex, some houses, and commercial development.
  • TxDOT, which looked to be stiffing not just Somervell County but places all over Texas due to their, ahem, bookkeeping that was off by 1.1 BILLION DOLLARS. is going to be spending over 15.5 mill in the county. This according to a press release by Sid Miller that (again, it's election time) talks about what he's doing.  Hmm. I'm guessing Miller didn't attend the TxDOT meeting that those folks held here a month or so ago where they were poor mouthing how they can't spend money on us. A little disconnect? In fact, and because I was sick I wasn't able to go to this month's county or city meeting, but there's a need for traffic signals and another lane added as a turning lane by 67 and 2008. Yes, on the bridge but boo on TxDOT which, in my book, has been grossly mismanaged.
  • You feel good about having a big ole fuel storage tank in the city? City decided to waive requirements for Texas Life Star medical air evac. Now, the newspaper has the name as Texas Life Star medical air evac but I'm betting it's actually AirEvac Lifeteam, which we've written about here before. At least I hope it's not a SECOND helicopter service to fill our skies with more traffic.
  • There's going to be a St Patrick's Day Festival this weekend downtown. Details are in the paper-what I love is there's going to be a dance starting at 7pm.
  • Obits John Anthony Tovar, John Latham White, and Burnett Wilie Hart.
  • People running for school board. Hey, I thought Marilyn Phillips said before she wasn't going to run another time. Kelley Snodgrass and Dr Mike Davis running, as well as some new people-Lewis Keese, Andy Snow and Kari Quinlan.
  • Pictures! Great pic of the Somervell County Master Gardeners, 2 New Lions pinned, debate contest students Remy Robertson, Kaytlin Wiseman, Matthew Wiseman and Graham Noell, sports pics of Ryan Bruce, Alex Albro, Hunter Knox, Brandon Edwards, Nick Gibson, Derek Thompson, Nathan Yeager, Kayla Pressure, and Drew Pollard, with group photo of North Central Tigers.
  • I always pass by that cutie little stone building that says "Stone Hut" on it, on the way to Dinosaur Valley State Park. Nice pic of the ribbon cutting.
  • The Glen Rose Reporter has a wonderful Living section now with pictures of babies and engagements, which include Crabtree-Calltharp, Shadowens-Pratka, and Holly Ann/Peyton Dian Ellison (who are twins!) . Also a pic by Linda Drake, who I think takes most of the pics in the paper, of Joseph and John Hague at the new Dino World. Cute pic of the Glen Rose Junior High School One Act Play cast and crew, and one of hte FCCLA first place winners.
