Wackenhut Corp. has come under heavy criticism and regulator scrutiny after news broadcasts showed video of Wackenhut security guards sleeping on the job at a reactor in Pennsylvania last year. The controversy prompted Chicago-based Exelon Corp. to terminate Wackenhut as its security contractor at all 10 of its nuclear plants, including five in Illinois.

Wackenhut provides security at both of Wisconsin's reactors along Lake Michigan, Point Beach and Kewaunee.

Mark Kanz, a spokesman for Dominion Generation, which owns the Kewaunee plant, said it had not had performance problems with Wackenhut at the plant. Dominion has been planning to bring security in-house for some time, to match Dominion's practice at its other nuclear plants in Virginia, he said.
