and I'm STILL not done! I haven't yet seen the Talking Tina episode, or the one where Billy Mumy sends the people in the house to the cornfield, or my absolute favorite- William Shatner on the plane where he sees the monster ripping open the wing. THIS time around I've recorded all the episodes so I can watch them at night.
Some thoughts about Twilight Zone in general. Rod Serling was always concerned about the effects of bombs on the population and had some really disquieting shows about what happens to people under threat. As in the episode where the family builds a bomb shelter in their basement, the neighbors didn't, and at first those neighbors make fun of the family for doing it... until the Conrad station tells them to go to safety.
The production values on Twilight Zone (well, maybe until the last year or so), were great. Not only could Rod Serling write a great story (I remember reading his stories as a kid) but the stories translated well to the television.Serling was, in many instances, carrying on an O Henry tradition, as in the story where Burgess Meredith is surrounded by books after a disaster, and his glasses break.
Anyway, between eating the traditional black eyed peas for luck, putting together some shelves my brother gave me, and standing outside in the night looking up at the stars, it was a great holiday. And a good start to a New Year.
