"One Thanksgiving, we put up a sheet at school and sold about 20 pies, and we did it again the next year and put the money in an envelope. We used that money when we decided to open a business."
That was five years ago. In that time, Pie Peddlers became something of a holiday tradition in town – and not just for Thanksgiving.
"Thanksgiving is the biggest holiday for pies," Mrs. Cagle says, "but Easter is big, Mother's Day, Father's Day. We only have two times a year when we're not busy: January, when everyone has made their New Year's resolutions, and Lent."
They'll make around 200 pies from scratch this week for Thanksgiving customers, mostly pumpkin and pecan, but also chocolate and coconut cream, buttermilk, key lime, various berries, cherry and apple.
