What a world! Bush opened a pandora's box of evils when he decided that bombing other countries doesn't require the consent of Congress (is there REALLY such a semantic difference between air strikes and a formal declaration of war when you invade or attack another country?). Turkey apparently believes it's on solid ground by doing just what Bush has done-deciding that it would go after Kurdish terrorists who are killing people in Turkey. Naturally, Bush, for whom the Kurds in general have some kind of relationship, doesn't really like the idea and tried to stop it. But ya know, when you're in the country that decides you can do that, can you REALLY tell other countries not to? Unless you threaten or bribe them, of course. Turkish warplanes bombed targets in northern Iraq on Wednesday as tensions remain high between the two countries over Turkey's allegations that Kurdish rebels have taken refuge in Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region.
