The Truth about Abusive, Endless Toll Road Taxation

We need to 'toll' everyone the truth!

No amount of politics, lies and sly-fox media representation is going to change the reality and facts that toll roads are NOT cost-effective.

  • Toll roads cause long-term debt to taxpayers.
  • Toll roads do NOT automatically make roadways less congested.
  • Toll roads do NOT decrease noise and air pollution.
  • Toll costs may be increased by TxDOT or the private toll company at ANY time without approval from the legislature or voters/taxpayers.

In fact, the reality of toll roads is that they increase many of those problems.

Look at large tolling states, e.g., New York, California and Florida. Do the toll roads work in these high populated areas?  Heck no!

These 3 states have long-term debts, high noise and air pollution and intense traffic congestion ON TOLL ROADS!!!   Adjacent roadways also are clogged-up with traffic and pollution.

These states even have a state income tax to help them pay for roadways and other issues, which we don't have here.

The truth is that if we'd use the gasoline tax as intended --- without diverting 40-percent of it to other interests --- we'd have enough revenue to build and maintain our roadways, and if the legislature would remove the tax freeze on gasoline we would have even more revenue.

Texans, don't buy into the great toll myth.

Tolls are the worst form of infinite taxation.  They are NOT the legacy we should leave for our children's grandchildren to pay for.

---

The worst case scenario is that Texas soon will wind-up like Florida and other tolling states, e.g., New York, New Jersey and California.  In these states the people pay ongoing and ever-increasing toll taxes that NEVER end, even after the road or bridge has been paid for.

Case in Point:  Florida

(Including but not limited to the following...)

SunPass Roads and Bridges

You can pay tolls with your SunPass on 449 miles of roads within the state of Florida including:

  • Turnpike Mainline
  • Homestead Extension (Miami-Dade)
  • Sawgrass Expressway (Broward)
  • Alligator Alley (Broward/Collier)
  • Seminole Expressway (Orlando)
  • Southern Connector Extension (Orlando)
  • Suncoast Parkway (Tampa)
  • Veterans Expressway (Tampa)
  • LeeRoy Selmon Crosstown Expressway (Tampa)
  • Polk Parkway (Lakeland)

In Miami-Dade, SunPass works on the following MDX roads:

  • SR 112 - Airport Expressway
  • SR 836 - Dolphin Expressway
  • SR 874 - Don Shula Expressway
  • SR 924 - Gratigny Parkway

In the Orlando area SunPass works on E-Pass and O-Pass roads.

SunPass also works on the following bridges:

  • Sunshine Skyway (St. Petersburg)
  • Pinellas Bayway (St. Petersburg)
  • Mid-Bay Bridge (Niceville)
  • Garcon Point Bridge (Milton)

In the Fort Myers area SunPass works on all three LeeWay bridges:

  • Midpoint Memorial Toll Bridge
  • Cape Coral Toll Bridge
  • Sanibel Causeway Toll Bridge

Toll taxation are infinite and endless tolls that will be passed on from generation to generation.  Tolls are the most regressive, long-term taxing methods.

"We don' need no stinkin' Toll taxes!!!"
