I have been writing about the Status of Forces Agreement in Iraq for a long time and last night, Bush, although he didn't CALL this the SOFA agreement, alluded to a long term, YEARS LONG presence in Iraq. (Here's info from Wikipeadia on Status of Forces Agreements)

Bush said the U.S. engagement in Iraq will stretch beyond his presidency, requiring military, financial and political support from Washington. He said Iraqi leaders "have asked for an enduring relationship with America.

"And we are ready to begin building that relationship in a way that protects our interests in the region and requires many fewer American troops."

Question: Does Bush have to get approval from Congress to have a SOFA agreement or can he just, King-Like, decide on his own to keep troops in iraq for years and years? Second, assuming somehow he manages to get this signed, do the Democratic candidates go along with this? Would they RESCIND that once one of them gets elected???? Or would we just occupy Iraq forever? Spend our money in Iraq while this country circles the drain?
