A huge fireball erupted near a natural gas well late Thursday in northern Hood County, destroying a tank battery and inflicting heavy damage to two vehicles, the county's fire marshal said.

I had to go look on a map for where that is, it's off Weatherford Highway north of Granbury. Must have scared the beegeezus out of the neighbors!

Nearby residents reported at 10:17 p.m. that they heard a large explosion coming from the well site near the intersection of Texas 51 and Tomlinson Road, about four miles north of Granbury.

No major injuries were reported in the fire, which was still under investigation on Friday, said Roger Deeds, the fire marshal.

He added, however, that it appeared to have been sparked as workers who were draining water used in the drilling process from the tanks.

"We had fire and blowing and going everywhere," Deeds said. "It was pretty wild."

He added that one of the tanks in the battery, "looked like a Roman candle."

"It was like a blowtorch blowing from a hole in the top of it."
