Permanent Bases and Embassy in Iraq-the SEMANTICS issue and SOFA agreements

Are you gonna believe your own eyes or are you gonna believe what I tell you? Why, if we really are not going to have a permanent presence in Iraq do we continue to build those HUGE boondoggle bases and the embassy? ThinkProgress has a bit today about how, in a report released yesterday, retired Marine Gen James Jones decries the massive footprint in Iraq which shows *permanence* and a continued US occupation.

But more than that. I want to talk about the use of the word *permanent* with regard to bases. (It's one semantic reason I despise Hillary Clinton). What's the difference if you say you aren't going to allocate money for bases in Iraq or if you say you won't allocate money for *permanent* bases? Plenty. About that 2008 Foreign Ops bill.
