An odorous cloud and a deafening roar poured from a natural gas well here late Wednesday, forcing residents to consider evacuating the neighborhood.

Fort Worth-based Quicksilver Resources operates the well in eastern Hood County.

Some residents of the community, seven miles east of Granbury, were told by Quicksilver workers that the racket came from a hole in either a pipe or a hose. Quicksilver officials said Thursday afternoon there was hole in a pipe.
