Bush Wants 50 BILLION More Dollars for his Surge (oops, Escalation)- Will Congress Cave In And Give it to him?

Remember back in more innocent days when Bush said his escalation was temporary and based on whether Iraq would meet benchmarks; ie, the time of having beaucoup more troops in Iraq was to give Iraq time to come up with some political bills that would cave to corporate interests. Seems that's changed now. But meantime, the GAO has pointed out in its reports that Iraq has NOT met benchmarks. So why would WE want to throw more money down Bush's War Drain?

The Government Accountability Office is giving an Iraq war status report to members of Congress Thursday and officials say the Bush administration is preparing to downplay the report's criticism of the Iraqi government for failing to meet most US-set benchmarks, saying the GAO used unfair, "all or nothing" standards.

Congressional auditors have concluded that Iraq's government hasn't met most of the political and military benchmarks set by Congress.

The congressional says 13 of 18 goals have not been met, including a fair distribution of oil profits.

The Pentagon has asked that some of the negative assessments in the audit be revised.

A military spokesman says that after reviewing a draft of the Government Accountability Office report, policy officials "made some factual corrections" and "offered some suggestions on a few of the actual grades" assigned by the GAO.

Oh, Please. Yeah, Bush, keep on revising the report, *downplaying* it so you can try to fool people into staying in your failed Iraq Adventure.
