but it's friggin okay to see BUSH use the military constantly as PROPS for his political career? I lost count of how many times I've seen military people IN UNIFORM standing behind him while he speaks.

IF the military is going to say that veterans or active duty people must obey military code rules, then how about enforcing it when it comes to BUSH and quit allowing the military to be politicized.

1 - pstern 5 Jun 2007 @ 11:25:57 AM While I understand your anger at this, it's against the law to wear a military uniform if you are not on active duty. The president virtually can do anything legally he wants with the military and/or it's props because he is the Commander-in-Chief of the military.

2 - salon 5 Jun 2007 @ 3:39:41 PM That may be. I know it's illegal, as Republicans have done before, to bring out troops for photo ops at political campaign events. I don't have a problem with Bush holding audience with troops, but it's just SHAMELESS when he puts them behind him when he speaks. If it isn't illegal, then it sure goes beyond, at the least, the bounds of taste.

Well, Bush isn't exactly known for his "taste".

I don't disagree that it's a "tacky" and even obnoxious way of "doing business" in Washington, but that's what we've evolved into.

Case in point, I've written several formal letters of complaint to the House and Senate Ethics Committees re: Bush's dealings and certain issues re: elected officials. They won't even review my complaints.

We need a big change-over from the top-down!

I'm for us re-evaluating how well the constitution works, and whether there should be changes, etc. I remember reading in a book, I think it was People's History of the United States, that Phildelphia was to go back and revisit the constitution after 5 years. I highly doubt that the founding fathers meant to see what happened at all levels of government. I agree that we need a big change-over but I don't think unless we fix the money issues that putting in new people will help. Corporations shouldn't be seen as citizens, and lobbyist money, etc shouldn't be allowed in government. And those who are benefitting from that right now aren't likely to vote against it.

Just as we don't permit lobbyists 100 feet near election ballots and voters voting, they should be prohibited from being inside the Capitol during legislative sessions. I've been writing about that for years and even filed complaints with the AG, DA's and legislators --- of course, no one responds to this complaint.

I haven't looked to see if it passed, but Sid Miller wanted to give police more power to use tasers in more situations. As you said, keep 'em away from the Capitol and if they dare to come close... ZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!
