"We found a sizeable hole in the casing at 757 feet," he said, attributing the gas to hole discovered a decade ago. "The lower part of the well was filled up with sediment. We think that with continuous pumping, the formation was was dewatered enough to let in quite a bit more gas."
Gas was discovered in the 1,149-feet deep well, drilled in 1969, in late February after drillers attempted to replace a burned-out pump only to witness an hour-long geyser of gas emitted after installing the new pump. Adjacent residents were evacuated from their homes overnight by the Rivercrest-Redland Volunteer Fire Department.
