All dang afternoon yesterday the weather radio went off, and the line of storms went from below Waco straight north, through Clifton and then up through Johnson County. I kept my shoes on in case I had to run out and hide in a ditch. Heard reports on the radio that tornadoes were spotted and one had touched down in Clifton; also Oglesby in Coryell County got damage (that's where Ennie Casbeer is from).
I noticed that Bush, being in the line of these storms as well (he's in the same Congressional district), took off in an armored vehicle for a storm shelter. One wonders just how nice the armored vehicle is, and is it better quality than the ones given to soldiers in Iraq? This part amused:
Mr. Bush had been spending the day clearing cedar while fielding phone calls from world leaders and keeping abreast of Iraq's plans to execute Saddam Hussein.
I noticed that the descriptions of who went to the shelter didn't include, for example, Cheney or Rice, so I'm assuming they'd left by then, leaving Bush only his cell phone and his chain saw. Actually that sounds so absurd, like some PR flack wanted to make Bush look like a farmer doing the *cedar brush* thing but still taking phone calls from world leaders. Now How Did That Happen? Did Bush lay down the phone on a pile of brush while tackling a new tree and then put down the chainsaw when the phone rang? Or did he have his nice armored vehicle with the AC on and secret service shouted "Phone Call For You, Sir" No, I think that's baloney. He couldn't have *spent the day* clearing cedar because the weather was nasty beginning at about 2-ish and it stayed that way till way after bedtime. Therefore, I pronounce the clearing cedar line to be BS unless it was a few photos from staged photo-op in the morning
