Good. Here locally we use here machines that scan the marked papers and then increment a counter on the machine. What is missing is any type of paper *receipt* or chit that would show if the *machine* actually recorded how you voted. Let me say this again. You put the marked paper into the electronic voting machine and you have to trust, because there is no paper trail, that the machine itself recorded your vote correctly. Suppose there was a slip between the scanning of the paper and how the machine recorded each vote... the only thing you can know visually from the vote is how many people have voted so far. Imagine that, rather, when you inserted the paper into the machine, that a small receipt printed out where you could see that the electronic voting machine recorded your vote properly, and then you placed that receipt into a box or whatever in case of a recount.
