At one point a few years ago, while video recording a Somervell County Commissioners Court meeting, I heard Brian Watts add an extra bill coming from Andrew Lucas, County Attorney, office as a budget transfer. I wondered what it was the commissioners were voting to pay, so I did an open records request. That's the first time I discovered that Somervell County taxpayers, by virtue of Somervell County Commissioners, and including Somervell County Judge Danny Chambers, were paying the bills for the case that Lucas, as the State of TExas, chose to pursue at his discretion. I've posted 3 or 4 times with the receipts for those bills, which are roughly $25,000 + that you have spent for C Alfred MacKenzie, the lawyer that Lucas got to represent him in appeals court and at the Texas Supreme Court. Reminding that Andrew Lucas said under oath that Somervell County paid the bills for MacKenzie in the State of Texas ex rel Best v Harper case
I've wondered for awhile what the fool the Somervell County Commissioners thought when they voted to approve these payments, thus taking responsibility
So, here's the accounts payable register, with the motion from the Commissioners and audio or video if available. Click each date to go directly to the facts around them.
