I really like the Punisher movie that stars Thomas Jane, wrote about it in 2008. The point of the Punisher is that the system of law has failed, and therefore Frank Castle must go outside the law to get justice. No system of law, in my book, should be doing the opposite, ie, deciding that to be vigilantes instead of working within the system of law is to be honored. Using it on a cop car implies that the cops are out to kill people instead of uphodling the law and system of justice. The character Frank Castle himself has said basically to knock it off in the new Punisher comic.

And Punisher Creator Gerry Conway says it's *disturbing* to see authority figures embrace the vigilante.
And yet, that's what some police departments around the country are doing by putting a Punisher logo on their social media pages or cop cars. In Kentucky, for example, it was discovered in 2017 that cops were putting decals on their cars that were a design of the Punisher's skull logo with Blue lives Matter slogan. Amazingly, those decals were approved by the city council and mayor. In St Louis, the cop union wanted to excuse the police from using those logos but Police Chief Hayden has the right idea

It's surprising to me that any police entity would want to put something on a cop car that purposely either puts out an idea that the police are stone cold vigilante lovers or that seek to pierce the wall that separates church and state by putting an "In God We Trust" on police vehicles. Here's the problem. A lot of people do not know that "In God We Trust" has no meaning to the government at all aside from being a motto. At least a percentage of citizens believe that the police are allied with a religion and God. But which God? Any old god, apparently. The courts have said when you see "In God We Trust" on something, say, money, it is not really religious but ceremonial deism. That argument is ridiculous. What if a person believes in many gods? Or no gods? And in the case of the police, why is law enforcement attempting to push a religious view on its citizens? What, if I don't, and I don't, believe in god, the police are not for me, or will treat me differently since their motto clearly says they want the entire county of Somervell to trust (one) god? It's pushy and the flip side of having a Punisher logo on a cop car.
Becuase that's what police want? Either to be seen as vigilantes or bigots?
