I went to go hear, in particular, the Karen Shepard case and was interested to see that the left hand side of the district courtroom was almost entirely packed with young people. This was before 9, and apparently Judge Neill came out to speak with them before the appointed time and before the courtroom was opened up for everyone else. Alan West, current Sheriff of Somervell County, told me that Shane Tipton offers the course at the high school and has been for years.
Have to say, it's such a terrific idea. After most of the cases had been heard, some of the students asked Dale Hanna about particulars in some. Good to see inquiring minds.
Would love to suggest that these students would also find it very interesting also to attend government meetings to see the other side about how laws and regulations get passed (that, hah, then, a few people decide to violate).
