Went to the City of Glen Rose special session today 5/25/2016. On the agenda was a proposal to create an ordinance to provide improvements to the pool.
There were some really great questions raised during this; the issue has to do with using chlorinated gas (unsafe) versus other chlorination measures, including bleach. The proposal, below, is for using chlorinated bleach. One issue was, since David Eyman had put in a report about pool safety some months ago (January 2016), why was this being brought up with so little time before the pool opens for the year? (this is a Wednesday before Memorial Day weekend) . This particularly because the pool will have to be at least temporarily closed while these changes are being made. The city administrator said he anticipated "opening the pool this weekend. open for Memorial Day weekend, will close at the close of business on Monday and once we submit this order, not sure what the shipping time is on it, we have a contractor that is included in this equipment, we'll be able to install the equipment within 4 days of the equipment landing here... we will open just as soon as possible after. I anticipate the first 2-3 weeks in June we'll be back open" (Look around 9:35 on the video) (One irate citizen was angry that she wasn't given a chance to comment; she had apparently spent money and made reservations for the park, and felt that this was sprung on her). Sandra Ramsay and Robert Marquez asked some great questions. In particular, Ramsay wanted to know why City council members had not been kept apprised of this situation, especially since it was known in January. There was also some brief discussion about the diving board having been removed, but since it wasn't specifically on the agenda, it couldn't be discussed. Does seem like there was some underlying concern that the manager at Oakdale Park had the diving board removed and not replaced without it being brought to the attention of City Council. Ramsay asked that the board and other concerns regarding the pool (to include the diving board) be put in the agenda for the June meeting.
Heard anecdotally that the chlorine gas used up to this point may not have been a regular expense, as there was a stockpile of it. Also that it's very possible it could be used at the city wastewater treatment plant
