The Arizona House yesterday approved legislation that would allow concealed weapons permit holders to take guns into bars, against the strident opposition of the state's restaurant and bar industries.
Dennis Arnold, the owner of Arizona's Gentle Ben's Brewing Company may have put it best: "This is possibly the most stupid piece of legislation proposed by man," he told the Arizona Daily Wildcat. ( http://wildcat.arizona.edu/papers/98/135/01_4.html. )
Just weeks ago, former Arizona State University football player Brandon Faulkner was shot and killed outside a Scottsdale, Arizona nightclub. ASU running back Loren Wade has been arrested and charged with first degree murder.
The bill stipulates that armed individuals can't have drinks while they are packing, but it contains no prohibition against armed individuals drinking before arming themselves. If bars want to prohibit guns, they would be required to post prominent signs at every entrance to the establishment.
