Not a secret here that I believe Prestonwood Baptist Church is a dark place based on a corrupt pastor, Bill Weber. But Prestonwood *Baptist* Church strives to be more than that, as evidenced by this article that shows that some of the Republican candidates are coming for a political forum tomorrow. Dallas Morning News
What’s more, conservative evangelicals have been on the losing end of bedrock issues like gay marriage, efforts to strip federal funding for Planned Parenthood and the protection of religious freedoms. Now, they’re looking for a leader to spark a political renaissance, and a key review of candidates comes Sunday at a Plano megachurch.
“Ultimately, evangelical Christians are going to coalesce around one of these candidates and will be a major factor in the election,” said Jack Graham, pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, who will question a half-dozen Republican candidates before thousands of church members this weekend. “In the last election, only 70 percent of evangelicals participated. This time there will be a much greater participation and motivation for Christians to vote and be a part of shaping the election.”
And worldly, corrupt, political Jack Graham wants to be right in the thick of it.
It's worth noting that the US Constitution doesn't grant the right for churches to be tax-exempt.
When churches decide they want to be just like the rest of the world, and want to freely tout and promote political opinions of ONE political party (after all, I don't see Democrats invited), they ought to be be able to do it AND pay taxes same as ANY OTHER GROUP DOES. Why give this megachurch a pass?
