from Somervell County Hospital District meeting 8/20/2015
This is really offensive. When Glen Rose Medical Center opted, after getting a 14.4 milllion dollar certificate of obligation guaranteed by taxpayer, to go from a private non-profit hospital to a public one run by taxpayers, they seem to forget that NOW their bosses ultimately are the taxpayers and the board members that are elected BY those taxpayers. The doctors salaries are part of the budget. Ray Reynolds has said before that the 501a organization exists for shortfall money (ie, money to be given to the doctors should they need more). He also said in this meeting, twice, that the 501a loses money. It may be the hospital in general gains money by the referrals that the doctors do with their patients to come to GRMC, but that says nothing about whether, in a public environment, citizens cannot know what the doctors are being paid.
What makes it even more ridiculous is that he said this in a PUBLIC meeting, not part of a closed session, with a lot of people in attendance, AND two cameras running. Clearly he does not believe in transparancy, but if Reynolds wants to keep all of how money is spent private, the hospital needs to be private and not take ONE cent of Somervell County taxpayer money showing up in the budget.
