When I was a Child in Texas, Birthdays Meant Running the Gauntlet at Recess

So, you think you have problems with school bullying. When I was a child, in Dallas, when it was someone's birthday, on the playground at recess, kids would line up in two lines, make the birthday girl or guy run through the line and smack him/her on the behind as he/she ran through. Every kid. I don't know when that particular custom went away, but I'm sure it contributed to how I feel about bullies now.

Anybody else remember this?
