I was watching the video from last night's Somervell County Hospital District meeting and someone mentioned (I think it was Ray Reynolds) that there was to be an appraisal district meeting this morning regarding the contested taxes from Luminant. So I stopped watching and decided to run down there with my camera.  

This really needs to be watched. This has to do with EFH (Energy Future Holdings) /Luminant contesting property values to various appraisal districts in Texas. In the one article I saw last night, from Cameron, the value that Luminant wanted to pay was about 1/3 of what the appraisal district asked for. What happened at this meeting is significant to ALL local government entities in Somervell County. Prudently, for example, Somervell County Commissioners Court shaved roughly a Half million dollars out of their budget for next year. According to Wes, there is a scheduled tax contest hearing next Tuesday at 9:00 am at the Appraisal Office, which is next to the library near the school. Luminant might well reschedule, or could, as they did at Cameron, send affadavits rather than show up in person. At any rate, this needs to be closely watched. In my own opinion, rather than spend a whole lot of money, particularly in another county's hospital district, the Somervell County Hospital District ought to be prudent as well and look to cut costs rather than blindly spend.
