So Glen Rose Medical Center Doesn't Want You See the Check Register

from the Budget and Finance Committee meeting of 5/28/2015. Pretty sure ANYBODY can do open records and get the check registers if the hospital refuses to do it. For some years, I used to ask for the county check registers, the GRISD school district, the water district check registers, and sometimes the city, and the I ALWAYS got them. At some point all of those entities began putting the check registers on line. Why would the Glen Rose Medical Center, as a public taxpayer run hospital, want to be an exception?

I did a public information request to Ray Reynolds on Thursday May 28 2015 asking for the check registers for a series of months, to be publicly inspected by me.

Reynolds. WE did contact our attorney about putting the check register on the website, he strongly advised against it, he didn't think that was the proper thing to do. It's you guys responsibilty to review the detail. When you start putting the detail out there, you start getting issues with what you are paying different vendors, he just strongly advised against it.

Harper: But it's not illegal. Because the county does it, the city does it (inaudible)

Whittsett: Hippa, patient refunds

Reynolds: We'll run you a copy of the email from him.

Whitsett: The first four pages and you'll see HOS, these are the hospital registers and the 2 behind it are the 501.

Harper: So any chance you can get a reason over here. We can see who they're to, amounts and the dates, but we don't have a clue what they're for.

Whitsett: This is a standard report but I could certainly try to do that.

Parker: Something that might be easier, put the account number it's going to.

Harper That still doesn't tell me what it's for.

Parker: if you can tell what the expense is, you can pretty well surmise, that wouldn't take much extra work.

Burroughs- But we have a lot of people that are monitoring this.

I actually don't understand why Karen Burroughs is on the Budget and Finance committee since she doesn't appear interested in ensuring, in a position of oversight, that the money is being accounted for. Certainly seems reasonable to me that saying WHAT the check was for on a report without people having to guess. The check registers for other government entities that I have seen TELL you what the check was written for.

The board largely voted for this on 5/28/2015. I'll post again when Ray REynolds responds to my open records request
