Had to laugh. Darrell Best, a public figure in these parts who most recently unsuccessfully ran for Somervell County judge (thank you-there IS a god!), repeatedly commandeers the microphone WHILE the district is in executive session in order to push his own agenda and work up the crowd. Heard that last night at a Somervell County Hospital District meeting, the Glen Rose Medical Center staff personnel, who are supposed, apparently, to make sure they turn off the microphone while the elected officials leave the room to go into executive session, neglected to do that. Ahah, that left the PERFECT opportunity for
Best to grab the live mike in order to trash the hospital district elected officials. As I've said before, there is no opportunity too small for Best not to try to exploit, free of charge, including with his own family, for his own purposes. If a circus ever comes to town and needs a barker, it won't have far to look to fill the job. I didn't ask, but wonder if a jar was passed to drum up money, such as the way Allen Sumners previously did before what actually WAS a posted public hearing?
My personal feeling is that if Mr Best wants to use the assembled citizens at a posted public hearing for his own agenda, he should either take it outside or leave the room so that anyone that doesn't want to hear his bullchit isnt a sitting duck for it so that THEY have to leave the room not to hear it. After all, it's a PUBLIC meeting, not comprised exclusively of partisans of one man's idealogy, and I'm sure every single person was not there to enjoy and marvel at Best's rants. Plus, that part of the meeting is not recorded, as public comments properly done that EVERYONE IN SOMERVELL COUNTY, could know about and enjoy ON THE RECORD.
It's his own little SIDESHOW. One word comes to mind and that is Opportunist. It's almost hilarious to me that it does not occur to Best that using a posted official meeting meant for the public and then commandeering the mike to work the crowd for a political rally highlighting his own personal agenda is vastly inapppropriate.
Let's carry this out to a hilarious example. Suppose that EVERY political opportunist that wanted to commandeer the room did it during executive session. Why, they'd probably have to challenge Darrell Best for use of the mike. Why, we could have a WINNER GETS THE MIKE moment and make up signs advertising "Wrestling during executive sessions" and pass the hat! Who does fire-eating and snake-charming? Is that fortune teller still living in Glen Rose? It could be a very entertaining way to pass the time waiting for those DANG serious elected officials to finish their business.
But as long as he does it, I'm going to continue to laugh at him for doing it.
