I was out yesterday and heard this on the radio- a discussion on THINK from Robert Lawson about how there is less government spending with the influx of immigrants.
Along that same line, there's a new report out from DPPP that shows that immigrants drive the Texas economy.
Roughly two in five immigrants in Texas are unauthorized — representing approximately 1.7
million out of the estimated 4.2 million foreign-born residents in Texas.6
More than a third of immigrants in Texas arrived after 2000, reflecting a national trend.7
However, growth in unauthorized immigration in Texas peaked in 2000, and since 2008, more
undocumented immigrants have left the state than have moved here. 8
The decline in number of unauthorized immigrants in Texas can be attributed to a number of
factors, including the economic recession and increased enforcement, among others.
Immigration flows have typically slowed during times of economic distress and lower demand for
labor.
9 While the economic recession likely was the largest factor contributing to the increase in
number of unauthorized immigrants leaving the state since 2008, growth in immigration
enforcement between 2000 and 2009 has also played a role in the number of undocumented
immigrants leaving the state. In 2000, an estimated 12,600 unauthorized immigrants were
removed through immigration enforcement in Texas. By 2009 that number increased to an
estimated 29,500, an increase of 134 percent. 10
It is important to note that these calculations do not include immigrants held in Texas detention
centers because the Census does not count these individuals as having actually immigrated to
Texas. The numbers, as a result, do not include unaccompanied minors who have recently
been detained in record numbers after crossing into Texas. If all these children were allowed to
remain in the United States as immigrants, they would have a negligible impact on the Texas
population because they would be divided among numerous states. The Center for Public Policy
Priorities is concerned for these children and recently re-released a 2008 study, "A child alone
without papers," that advocates for common-sense, compassionate policies to protect their
rights. While it is important to address the serious issues raised by unaccompanied minors in
Texas, this report focuses on the overall economic contributions of immigrants in Texas, which
have been overwhelmingly positive.
and this is an interesting article from the Independent about Mexico's reaction to Rick Perry ( a little rough, translated by Bing)
Texas is the State with which Mexico shares more kilometers of border and by which crosses the larger trade volume between the two countries. We share the Rio Grande, dams international, a culture of binational dyes and many common problems. However, on the verge of finishing its extended mandate, Perry never designed a strategy or a programme approach and above all for use in the neighborhood with Mexico. Our country rather has seemed a kind of inevitable discomfort. South Texas has been the area that has less visited and which shows the highest rates of poverty.
If Perry comes to the White House, we should not wait, by no means, warmth and genuine affection that George W. Bush had for us. The former President can criticize is you the way and fought terrorism or by the unnecessary war in Iraq (which the consequences are continuing to pay). But one of the American Presidents was more interested in cultivating a mature and productive relationship with Mexico.
As Governor he opposed openly the Obama health insurance program, calling it a "Socialist on American soil" experiment. The result is that Texas ranks first in the United States of people without insurance. By contrast, the ultra conservative National Rifle Association conferred the highest degree of membership. Its mandate carries the number 283 executed by death penalty record. Of course opposes abortion, even in cases of incest or rape. On fiscal matters, he has refused to raise taxes, but instead is leaving the higher government debt of the United States.
The crisis of migrant minors, mostly Central Americans, who cross into the United States, has given him a wonderful political opportunity for attempts at political level. It sent elements of the National Guard to protect the border and the Mexican Government decided to answer him. Nothing could come you best to Rick Perry as a direct claim by the President of Mexico. That day celebrated with ribs BBQ and Square Dancing. Tell me who is my opponent and I will tell you who I am. He took the opportunity and certainly responded with a letter to the President Peña Nieto. Nothing else was missing. In conservative circles they are beginning to look like the hero who confronts the corrupt Government of Mexico, that that does not move a finger to stop the flow of Central American migrants, which tab to traffickers who poison the youth of United States.Wanting to defend Mexico, we inflate the Governor of Texas.
Vicente Fox on this (Sep 2014)
As reported in the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Fox said he hoped that the U.S. and Texas governor would stop “building walls, stop bringing National Guard.”
“I don’t know what’s in his mind, I don’t know what Gov. Perry is afraid of, because there’s no use in doing what he’s trying to do. Maybe he has the vision of those politicians that only look for the next election and don’t look for the good, solid decisions for the people in Texas and for the people in Mexico,” Fox said.
“Maybe Gov. Perry should know that Mexico imports billions, billions of dollars that account for thousands, hundreds of thousands, of jobs for Texas’ citizens,” he said.
