I almost couldn't believe my ears when I heard it. We were sitting at the Somervell County Hospital District board room having the official 'drawing for a place on the ballot' to determine placement of names when the person conducting the drawing, Angie Robertson who is the Secretary of the Somervell County Hospital District Board, said 'I can take bribes' right after announcing my name was being put into the bowl. I kind of laughed at first but then I sat back and thought about what just happened. When I first texted some folks about it they were like no way, you must have heard it wrong, tell me exactly what she said so I was like ok since I videotaped the event let me just go ahead and play it back to verify I wasn't hearing things. You can watch the 1 minute clip for yourself here:
Note how she is looking around to make eye contact with people to get their visual response while she is folding a name saying "Now if you want an extra fold so I can read it, I can take bribes". This indicates that she is considering an extra fold so when she reaches back in to grab a name, she can feel for that extra fold and select the special ones she marked when she folded them.
Now if you want to watch the entire un-edited version of the meeting, aka the same copy I am sending to the Secretary of State as evidence along with the formal election complaint about the solicitation of bribes during the meeting, it is about 10 minutes longer 11:32 and you can watch it here:
Do you think its appropriate for Angie Robertson, Secretary of the Somervell County Hospital District, to say this during the election drawing...while she is folding a name...while she is looking around for a visual confirmation from people? Do you think she should resign?
The formal complaint along with a copy of the video is being sent to the Secretary of State's office per 31.006 of the Texas Election Code. If they find it has merit they will turn it over to the Office of Attorney General. Per Section 36.02 of the Texas Penal Code, if convicted this is a 2nd degree felony.
