Should Somervell County Hospital District be spending Somervell County taxpayer money in Hood County's Hospital District at gated community Pecan Plantation's Pecan Family Medical Center? We don't believe so, and we are not alone among Somervell County taxpayers who agree with us. (UPDATE: Especially when the Pecan Family Medical Clinic serves no public hospital purpose-why does Mr Lucas agree with taxpayer money being spent for a clinic in a different hospitl district that TURNS AWAY Somervell County residents because they don't live, not just in Hood County, but in golf course community Pecan Plantation?) Andrew Lucas, who is specifically elected and thus supposed to be acting on behalf OF Somervell County residents, told me last week that the remedy for my complaint about this money being spent is this.

the remedy lies in district court in a civil action.

 He apparently arrived at this conclusion by asking the Glen Rose Medical Center attorney, Kevin Reed, whose argument I have picked apart here. So, rather than his being able to use his elected office to try to get, say, an Attorney General opinion on whether it is appropriate to spend money in another defined district, according to a public purpose, he is throwing it back on the taxpayer to have to bring this up in court. And here I thought the man we elected worked for us.

P.S. Note that the response from Andrew Lucas was to me, Salon, the female whose blog this is and the person who, after requesting open records regarding the GRMC 501a, filed a complaint with the Somervell County Sheriff's Department in 2014. There are a lot of us who write on my blog, Somervell County Salon; we don't always all agree, but the stance of THIS BLOG is that the Somervell County Hospital District should not be spending money in another defined hospital district of Hood County's. If at some point the district gets a Texas state attorney general opinion that says otherwise, I will publicly say that i was wrong.
