Have been wondering about this for a long time. Somervell County owns a number of large buildings or properties. It's my understanding that TXU property taxes and maybe some original deal to bring in Comanche Peak to the county paid for all these structures. Then, some 3rd party companies have come into lease agreements with the county to use the various premises and pay some amount of money to do so. I don't know if this has been the case for all these years but for the last 5 years, county taxpaying residents have subsidized the amphitheatre, expo center, hospital, and golf course. Putting this another way, none of the above entities have made a profit or even broken even. Both county and city government have said that the value of having taxpayers subsidize these entities is for the other businesses in the area, such as restaurants, retail shopping, motels, etc.

When you own a business be it retail , entertainment , or any other venture you have to manage it , once it is running smoothly and PROFITABLE you promote or hire a trustworthy person to manage said venture but you the owner still have the duty to make sure it thrives or at least breaks even , if not you sell , lease or close it down . If you do not you go bankrupt when you run out of money.

Agree with you. And if it's leased, then the agreement should be such that the taxpayer is not involved in helping the business leasing make their bills.

Real govenmental bodies in Texas put it out for bid and get paid for the use and profit of thier real property thats why a coke cost $3 at Will Rogers for example . If you lease thier space you have to agree to all thier subcontactors lease agreements , they make money on thier venues . We ????? put our heads in the sand and hope it will go away or ?????do our standard nothing.

That's why I don't get why the management of the golf course was not bid out for RFP... except that it really appears that Somervell County simply wants use of the liquor license.
