I don't disagree that the position of an events coordinator is a good idea. There certainly are a lot of venues around town and the county, and multiple people who book them, and being able to have a central person to coordinate the events and direct people where to go for more info would be invaluable. And for that person to also book festivals and other events in order to bring more tourism to the city is a wonderful idea. However, why in the world is this not being funded BY the city THROUGH the city to a CITY position (assuming it's even legal to do this, more on that in a different post)? The City of Glen Rose already has a CVB (Convention and Visitors Bureau, where the function of those who work there is ONLY to bring tourism to the area. The CVB is funded directly by hotel/motel tax and tracked by city government. Any record involving how those monies are being spent is open and transparent. At one point, Billy Huckaby of the CVB suggested hiring an additional person to not only assist at Oakdale Park but book events for it, and asked for money for that position. I think that went away. But supposed the events coordinator, although getting paid by 4b money, worked for Billy Huckaby and officed out of the CVB, for example?  Here is the job description for the Director of the CVB. This is not an events coordinator position but dovetails well with that office.
